Does anyone have any experience with a cat with lymphoma or feline leukemia?
Feline lymphoma is fairly common for a cancer in cats but it is important not to panic until you get the official diagnosis. My 13-14 year old cat was diagnosed with lymphoma this past December. There are lots of types of chemotherapy treatments available but not all will do well with every type of lymphoma. There is a yahoo group for feline lymphoma that you can join and ask questions of others with cats with lymphoma. It is a support group so not everything is allways 100% about cancer but it is a good group of people and the people are helpful. A web site that I found helpful when my cat was first diagnosed is felinelymphoma.org It has case studies (some good results some not) lots of information on treatments and links to places that might be able to help financially pay for chemo. Many vets will tell you that chemo may not prolong your cats life by much. Some cats do really well with chemo and live for years and have a very good life and some don't respond at all to chemo and deteriorate quickly. How advanced the cancer is doesn't make any difference in how well they respond in general. My cat is doing well and the cancer is in remission. It is only 5 months at this point but I hope she will live a few years. She is active and healthy enough to not realize she has cancer. She plays with her ''sister'' and enjoys a good walk on her leash. If your cat is only 13, 6 more months, if life is good is a high percentage of time. I hope your cat has something more curable but if not, I hope you will join us on the felinelymphoma yahoo group. just do a search on feline lymphoma yahoo group and you will locate it. Even if you choose not to treat your cat, they can help with advice on how to make the best of life for him
