Bread recipe requires electric mixer. Can I substitute doing it by hand and get equal results?

I am making a bread recipe a href="http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2011/07/cilantro-scallion-bread" rel="nofollow"http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2011/0…/a it tells you to use a mixer with a bread attachment and I don't have that kind of mixer. I made bread before but not the kind that required kneading and rising. I would like to know if I hand mix the bread if it will do harm to the recipe. I know in the past no one used a mixer for bread so I don't seemed worried though I would like some feedback
